About Us

Trees for Augusta, Inc. was incorporated by the State of GA and received its 501 c (3) not-for-profit status from the IRS in April, 2009.

The mission of Trees for Augusta, Inc. is to provide leadership in the education, preservation and planting of trees along the streets of Augusta, Georgia.

Trees for Augusta, Inc. will also maintain a website (www.TreesforAugusta.org) highlighting these activities. There is no paid staff.

In February, 2010, Trees for Augusta, Inc. completed its first planting project – planting 7 Chinese Pistache and 10 Crape Myrtles along the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Jones Street. This will extend a planting begun in the early 1980’s at this site.

In April, 2011, in December 2011, and in March 2011, Trees for Augusta, Inc. planted 22 Sugar Maples and 22 dogwoods in the Henry Street and Fleming Avenue medians. Also, exisitng dogwoods were pruned and mulched.

In February 2011, with the cooperation of the Summerville Neighborhood Association, Trees for Augusta, Inc. planted 4 overcup oaks in Hickman Park and 3 oaks near the intersection of Meigs and Central avenues.

In March 2011, Trees for Augusta, Inc. planted 10 live oaks on the west side of the 900 block of James Brown Boulevard.

Also, the organization plans to compile a list of noble and heritage trees in the area for posting on the website, establish a memorial tree program, and conduct walking tours of historic and notable trees.

Trees for Augusta, Inc. plans to work cooperatively with Augusta-Richmond County and its Tree Commission
