Opening Night at the Augusta Symphony, Welcome to America

Kick off the 69th season of the Augusta Symphony! Honoring the culturally rich musical history of our nation, each concert of this year’s Piedmont Augusta Symphony Series lineup features at least one American composer and one American immigrant. Concertgoers can immerse themselves in a curated sampling of music from our own backyard and from across the globe! The flagship concert of this season will feature Igor Stravinsky’s “Scherzo a la Russe,” Samuel Barber’s soul-stirring Violin Concerto, performed by Concertmaster Anastasia Petrunina, and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, Titan, which includes the German folk music of Mahler’s upbringing, coupled with the powerhouse of lush orchestration and harmony that is his specialty.
